SaveRoofs Introduce
Choosing a roofing contractor in the Portland, Oregon, area is a critical decision. The city’s unique climate, characterized by frequent rain, can be hard on roofs, making a high-quality, durable installation or repair an essential investment in your home’s protection. When homeowners search for a contractor, they look for key qualities: reliability, fair pricing, and quality workmanship. SaveRoofs is a company that has been active in the local market, and this article aims to provide a factual and comprehensive overview of their business to help local users make an informed choice. We will examine their location, a general summary of services, and key highlights based on available public data, including a detailed look at customer feedback.
Customer reviews are an invaluable tool for understanding a company's performance, and in the case of SaveRoofs, they present a mixed picture. One customer, who had a long-standing relationship with the company, had a positive experience. They stated, "great job. Jon has looked after my roof for a few years and it always comes out nice. I am taking 1/2 a star off for a couple of minor issues which were taken care of. Otherwise I am very happy with their work." This review highlights a consistent history of positive service and a willingness to address and rectify minor issues, suggesting a commitment to customer satisfaction over the long term. However, another review provides a contrasting and highly concerning experience. A customer who had a new roof installed less than two years prior recounted a series of issues, beginning with a quote that was provided without an in-person inspection, leading to a significant increase in the final cost. Most critically, they reported a major roof leak that occurred less than two years after installation, a problem they attributed to incorrect installation. The customer claimed, "They nailed THROUGH the flashing," which resulted in a leak into their house. They also noted that the company "appears to have vanished," leaving them without warranty support and facing an additional $5,000+ in repair costs on a roof for which they had already paid over $12,000. These divergent reviews underscore the importance of thorough due diligence when selecting a contractor.
SaveRoofs is located at 16700 SE 80th Pl, Portland, OR 97267, USA. This address places them within the Portland metropolitan area, making them a local option for residents in Portland and the surrounding communities, including those in Clackamas and Multnomah counties. The proximity of a contractor is often a key factor for homeowners who want a company that is familiar with local building requirements and can provide quick service, especially during emergencies. The Portland location suggests that SaveRoofs is a local entity with a physical presence in the community, allowing them to serve their neighbors in the area. This local base is typically a positive feature, as it implies familiarity with the regional weather patterns and the types of roofing issues commonly encountered in Oregon.
While detailed, up-to-date information on the full scope of their services is not consistently available from a single source, their work as a roofing contractor generally includes several common services. A third-generation roofer named Jon Magers is associated with the company, suggesting a history in the trade. Based on the customer reviews and the general nature of a roofing contractor's work, the services provided would typically fall under the following categories:
- Roof Installation and Replacement: The reviews indicate that SaveRoofs performed new roof installations, including tear-offs and replacements. This service involves removing an old roof and installing a new one with a variety of materials, likely including asphalt shingles, which are common in the Portland area.
- Roof Repair and Maintenance: The positive review mentions Jon looking after the roof for a few years, suggesting that maintenance and repair services are part of their offering. This would involve fixing leaks, replacing damaged components, and general upkeep to prolong the roof’s lifespan.
- Roof Inspections and Estimates: Providing estimates for roofing projects is a standard service. While one review points out that an initial quote was given without an on-site inspection, the company did provide a quote, and the service is a fundamental part of the process.
Based on the provided information, there are a few features and highlights worth noting for anyone considering this company.
- Local and Generational Experience: The company's local presence in Portland and the mention of a third-generation roofer, Jon Magers, suggest a deep-rooted knowledge of the trade and the specific needs of homes in the area.
- Quick Response: The positive review highlights a history of prompt service, which is a valuable trait for any contractor, especially when dealing with roofing issues that require a timely solution.
- Willingness to Address Issues (in some cases): The first review mentions that minor issues were addressed and taken care of, which shows a history of trying to resolve problems when they arose.
For those who wish to contact SaveRoofs, the following information is available.

It is important to note the significant disparity in the customer feedback provided. Potential customers are advised to perform their own due diligence, including asking for references, verifying licensing and insurance, and ensuring a thorough in-person inspection and detailed contract before any work begins.
Based on the available information, the suitability of SaveRoofs for local Oregon residents is a complex matter. On one hand, there is evidence of a long-term, positive relationship with at least one customer, highlighting a history of good service and responsiveness. This suggests a company that, at times, can deliver a satisfying experience. On the other hand, the highly critical review detailing a series of missteps from a non-physical inspection to a premature roof failure and a perceived lack of accountability and warranty support is a major concern. The core purpose of a roof is to protect a home, and a failure within two years is a serious issue that directly impacts the safety and financial well-being of the homeowner. Given the mixed reviews, particularly the stark contrast between the positive and negative feedback, locals considering SaveRoofs should proceed with caution. It is crucial to conduct a thorough and independent assessment of the company’s current status, request multiple references from recent projects, and obtain a detailed, written contract that clearly outlines the work, materials, cost, and warranty information before making a final decision.

Aug 02, 2018 · Andy SaywardI had this company install a new roof less than 2 years ago. First, they didn't come out to take a look at the roof, but still gave me a reasonable quote. Then they upped the quote because someone didn't do an aerial view or something. Then they (legit) had to add plywood under the new roofing, but if they would have come out to do the quote they probably would have been able to not dump that surprise on me, but they split the cost with me. However, not 2 years later, my roof leaked INTO MY HOUSE, and the company appears to have vanished. That means there's no warranty on my roof that they installed incorrectly. They nailed THROUGH the flashing. I get to pay more for a repair on a roof that shouldn't have been leaking after less than 2 years. If they get back into business, go somewhere else. Over $12k paid (was quoted $7800 originally), plus another $5k+ to fix THEIR mistake.
Feb 08, 2021 · Jodi DraperWe had John, the owner of the company, out to take a look at our leak issue with our roof. I was very impressed with his desire to explain things about our roof and educate me on the things to look for, on what he saw as, the negatives and positives. I learned a lot.One thing that was very obvious to me was he has a strong work ethic. He takes pride in his work. Like myself, when I walk away from a job, I want to know that left my customer with 100% satisfaction.John told me is a third generation roofer...obviously...he was paying attention. At the end of this review...I want people to know that when John was done... he said...I feel you have a sweating issue that is causing the condensation because of how the insulation was installed. He could have easily said...well I think you need to do this or this or even...you need a whole new roof. That speaks louder than anything...honesty and integrity. Something , in this day and age, that is getting harder to come by.Thank you John and I know who I will call again.Paul Dickson.
Apr 27, 2018 · Paul DicksonThe materials used were top notch - Malarkey shingles, heavy duty flashing and nails. Anthony made numerous trips out to show samples and give quotes to neighbors, and took plenty of calls to answer questions. It took just a few days to remove the old shingles and replace with new ones. During the installation there were a couple small issues, but they went above and beyond when it came to repairing/replacing those items. There was a software issue that resulted in our cost being higher than originally quoted, but it still ended up being cheaper than other companies. Overall the finished product looks very nice and seems like it will last for quite some time.
Apr 25, 2018 · Gary PeschkaPedro came out to clean the gutters, took pictures of roof tiles that were coming off, and flashing that needed attention. Gave me a an estimate for the repairs before he left . Had other estimates that were very high and didn't address the issues. Came back a couple of times to finish the job. Everything looks fine and the gutters are draining again. Thank you Pedro.
