For homeowners across New Jersey, maintaining a strong and reliable roof is an absolute necessity. The Garden State experiences a wide array of weather conditions, from harsh winter storms with heavy snow and ice to intense summer heat and strong coastal winds, particularly along the shorelines. A properly installed and well-maintained roof is your home's primary defense against these elements, protecting its structural integrity, preventing water damage, and contributing significantly to overall energy efficiency. When seeking a roofing contractor in New Jersey, local residents look for companies that offer not only skilled workmanship but also reliability, clear communication, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. This article explores Union Roofing, a contractor based in North Wildwood, NJ, providing an overview of their services and factors to consider when selecting a local roofing expert for your New Jersey property.
The importance of a robust roofing system cannot be overstated. Leaks, damaged shingles, or an improperly installed flat roof can lead to extensive and costly interior damage, mold growth, and compromised structural components. Beyond immediate repairs, the longevity of your roof also impacts your home’s value and your peace of mind. For New Jersey residents, especially those in coastal communities like North Wildwood, selecting a contractor familiar with regional challenges—such as salt air exposure and stringent building codes—is paramount. Understanding a contractor's track record, services, and approach to customer service is vital in making an informed decision for such a critical home investment.

Proximity allows for potentially quicker response times, which is especially critical during emergencies such as post-storm damage or sudden leaks. A local contractor often has a more intimate understanding of the specific building materials, architectural styles, and environmental regulations pertinent to coastal New Jersey homes. This regional knowledge can be invaluable in recommending appropriate roofing solutions that are durable and compliant with local standards. For residents in Wildwood, Stone Harbor, Avalon, Cape May, and other nearby shore towns, Union Roofing's North Wildwood address offers a convenient point of contact for consultations and service coordination.

When considering Union Roofing, some key aspects highlighted by customer feedback can provide insight into their operational practices and service quality.
Efficiency and Speed of Service: One customer expressed pleasure with the team's ability to get a job started "very quickly" and their overall "professional and efficient work." This suggests an ability to mobilize resources promptly and execute projects in a timely manner, which is often appreciated by homeowners facing roofing issues.
Site Protection and Cleanliness: A positive highlight noted was the team's diligence in "protecting ours and our neighbors house during the roof removal" and ensuring "everything was neat and clean." This indicates a commitment to professionalism beyond just the roofing work, extending to respect for property and maintaining a tidy work environment.
Warranty and Responsibility Disputes: A significant concern raised by a customer involved a dispute over warranty voidance due to a subsequent deck installation and allegations of incorrect pitch during a flat roof installation leading to recurring leaks. This highlights the importance of clarifying warranty terms, understanding the impact of subsequent modifications to a roof, and ensuring proper installation techniques, especially for flat roofs where precise pitch is critical for drainage. Such disputes underscore the necessity for homeowners to engage in thorough due diligence, obtain clear contractual terms, and understand the scope of work and warranty exclusions.
Customer Service and Communication Issues: The account of repeated promises to address a leak followed by denials of responsibility and offers to fix the "mistake" at significant cost points to potential challenges in customer service and communication resolution. This aspect is crucial for New Jersey homeowners seeking a contractor with reliable post-service support.
Legal and Compliance Allegations: The mention of lacking a HIL (Home Improvement License) number for New Jersey on a contract and previous exposés by consumer advocacy programs (like 6 ABC Call for Action) raises serious concerns about compliance and business practices. Homeowners in New Jersey should always verify a contractor's licensing and reputation with relevant state consumer protection agencies and regulatory bodies before engaging their services.

Mar 18, 2025 · trish ervinI had a leak in my sunroom and I contacted Union Roofing. In February 2021 Union Roofing installed a flat roof on my home. I subsequently had the deck rebuilt once the flat roof was finished. In December 2022 the leak returned. I have interior damage again. I just went through this headache less than two years ago and I’m now having to relive this nightmare. I contacted Union Roofing and they assured me they would be right out to fix the problem. Shortly thereafter I received an email and they denied all responsibility claiming since I had installed a deck on top of the roof, their warranty was void. They claimed the deck was caving in the roof. I hired a contractor who came and reviewed the problem and determined that when Union Roofing installed the new flat roof, they changed the pitch of the roof, causing water to harbor in place rather than flow freely and drain on the west side of the house. I contacted Union Roofing again and informed them of the issue and they again promised to come out and remedy the problem. Within less than 24 hours they sent me a notification via email that they take no responsibility for the problem but would fix the problem for $15,000. They think I should hire them to fix their own mistake!? They claimed the deck was installed incorrectly, and that a piece of asbestos siding that is missing caused the roof to leak. The asbestos siding piece has been replaced and repaired and yet the leak continues; therefore, the missing asbestos piece they have added to the problem, but by no means caused it. The deck was placed on the roof, however water flows freely off the roof everywhere except for the one corner where they used too much material and changed the pitch of the roof. I hired a contractor to remove the deck and revealed the horrible roofing job that Union Roofing did. I hired a reputable roofing company and they replaced the mess Union Roofing created. Union Roofing failed to even have the roof touch the adjoining buildings. The perimeter was full of holes and leaks it has cost me approximately $8000 to remedy the problems Union Roofing created Their cavalier attitude, coupled with the reviews I have recently read about them, infuriate me. I am a single, female senior citizen and they took advantage of me. I want them to reimbursement in full for the damage they caused to my property Further, Union Roofing operates in PA and NJ but it has no HIL # for New Jersey on its contract anywhere. This is consumer fraud as well. I contacted 6 ABC Call for Action; they did an exposé of Union Roofing in 2020 so they referred me to the AG offices in PA &NJ. I am following up on this matter in hopes of deterring others to be taken by these shysters & to personally be made financially whole.
Feb 14, 2023 · doreen morrisI hired Union Roofing to look at my shore house roof because a couple of shingles had blown off. They were professional and showed up on time for the work. I' was not at the location, but they told me that the roof needed reconditioning for $1600, which I agreed to. I checked my Ring cameras and their team of 2 guys were there for a total of 37 minutes. They were on the roof for about 15 minutes. Obviously I was getting the "no owner around to watch" pricing. I spoke to their business' owner and he was professional but maintained the cost of his labor forced them to charge that much. He ultimately agreed to cut the pricing in half, which I agreed to pay. They aren't a trustworthy company. I wouldn't use them again or recommend them to anyone.
Jan 15, 2021 · John SchroederAfter encountering a dead beat contractor to fix my leaking roof unsuccessfully and who wanted to replace the entire roof- I called Union Roofing for a second opinion. Turns out it was the heating stack which caused the leak into the ceiling not the roof... it was 1 and done!Pat was extremely professional- didn’t try to make something more expensive but trying to fix the entire roof by taking the least path. Great and fast service. Office staff was extremely professional and expedient - thanks MichelleI recommend Union!
Jan 24, 2019 · Karen BatotOur condo association hired Union Roofing to complete a maintenance inspection of our roof in North Wildwood and to fix any problems. They charged us $2850 to complete this roof inspection and repair. Within 3 months one of the units reported a major leak on their ceiling. After several calls to the company my husband finally got through to one of the owners. The owner didn't give my husband the time of day and insisted on not fixing the problem without additional charges and then hung up on him. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY
