For homeowners across Pennsylvania, ensuring the integrity and longevity of their roof is a paramount concern, as it serves as the primary defense against the state's varied weather conditions. Beyond roofing, many also seek dependable contractors for other crucial home exterior projects like gutters, siding, and skylight installations. Becker Construction, located in Pottsville, PA, is a local company that offers a range of services in these areas. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and factual overview of Becker Construction, drawing directly from available public information and comprehensive customer reviews. The goal is to offer Pennsylvania residents a balanced perspective, acknowledging both positive experiences and significant concerns, to help them make informed decisions regarding their home improvement needs.
Becker Construction has generated varied feedback from its clientele. While one customer lauded their swift response and effective full roof replacement at a "great price," highlighting positive interactions and quick resolutions, another detailed an extensive list of issues, significant financial losses, and profound dissatisfaction due to poor workmanship, contract breaches, and a lack of responsiveness. This introduction sets the stage to explore the services Becker Construction provides, their accessibility in Pennsylvania, and the range of experiences reported by their customers, providing a comprehensive picture for those considering their services.
Becker Construction is conveniently located at 600 N Centre St, Pottsville, PA 17901, USA. This address places them firmly within Schuylkill County, making them highly accessible to residents and businesses throughout Pottsville and the surrounding communities in Eastern Pennsylvania. Pottsville's strategic position in the anthracite coal region means it has established road networks, facilitating efficient travel to and from various parts of the county and nearby areas. Whether you are in Minersville, Schuylkill Haven, Tamaqua, or other towns across Schuylkill and neighboring counties, Becker Construction's local presence offers a direct point of contact for roofing and exterior home improvement inquiries.
The accessibility of a local contractor is often a key consideration for Pennsylvania homeowners, particularly when dealing with urgent roof repairs or planning significant exterior renovations. Becker Construction's base in Pottsville underscores their commitment to serving the immediate community and surrounding regions, allowing for potential site visits, project discussions, and efficient team deployment across Eastern Pennsylvania. For locals, having a contractor within easy reach can simplify logistics and communication throughout a project.
Becker Construction offers a range of services primarily focused on roofing and exterior home improvements. Based on customer reviews, their key service offerings appear to include:
- Full Roof Replacement: This service involves the complete removal of old roofing materials and the installation of new shingles or other roofing systems. One customer explicitly mentioned a "total roof replaced."
- Roof Repair: Addressing specific issues with existing roofs. However, one detailed review highlighted issues such as popped-up shingles, exposing plywood, and gaps in flashing, indicating potential concerns with repair quality.
- Gutter Installation and Repair: This includes installing new gutters and downspouts. Customer feedback noted instances of gutters being cut too short, being off-pitch, using incorrect elbow joints, and improper installation of gutter hangers (on top of shingles).
- Skylight Replacement: Replacing existing skylights. A significant issue raised was the attempted replacement of venting skylights with non-venting ones, and not offering options like pre-installed blinds.
- Siding Repair: While not explicitly detailed, general home exterior work often includes siding. The negative review mentioned a "hole in my window screen," which, while not siding, relates to exterior integrity.
- Exterior Cleanup: The expectation of using a "magnetic sweep to clean up the nails" and overall debris removal is mentioned, though one review indicates this was not adequately performed, leading to hazards.
It is important for potential clients to obtain a very clear and detailed contract outlining all services, materials, and expectations for any work performed by Becker Construction.
Becker Construction's features and highlights, as gleaned from customer reviews, present a mixed picture. Here’s a breakdown:
Potential Positive Highlights:
- Quick Response and Scheduling: One customer praised their swift response, noting an employee "came to the house saw my trouble and made sure I was going to get the help I needed" and had a crew at the house "the next day."
- Timely Completion: The same positive review indicated a "total roof replaced with a great price" in a timely manner.
- Competitive Pricing: The positive review also mentioned receiving a "great price" for the roof replacement.
- Handling Challenging Pitches: "The pitch of my roof was extreme," yet they completed the job, suggesting an ability to handle difficult roofing configurations.
Significant Concerns / Negative Highlights:
- Poor Workmanship and Quality Control: Numerous issues were cited, including popped-up shingles, exposed plywood, incorrect gutter cuts, off-pitch/off-tilt gutters, wrong-sized flashing, smashed elbow joints, and downspouts that looked poorly cut and heavily siliconed.
- Contract Breaches: Allegations of not using a magnetic sweep for nail cleanup (leading to tire damage and injury risk) and failing to replace drip edge as per contract.
- Lack of Responsiveness: A major recurring issue was the company's alleged failure to respond to attempts to resolve problems for three months, citing a "family emergency" for two months, and delaying action even after a certified inspector's report.
- Hazardous Debris Left Behind: Large quantities of roofing nails were left in the yard, posing a danger to pets and resulting in a car tire puncture.
- Damage to Property: A torn window screen was reported.
- Unsafe Work Practices: Workers were observed walking on a deck railing, a material not meant to bear such weight.
- Improper Installation Techniques: Installation of gutter hangers on top of shingles was described as a "lazy" and incorrect method by inspectors and other contractors, despite the company's alleged claim otherwise.
- Material Misjudgment: Attempted replacement of venting skylights with non-venting ones, and not offering options like pre-installed blinds for skylights.
- Extended Delays: 160 feet of gutter left in the yard for two weeks, requiring multiple emails to prompt removal/completion.
- Dispute Resolution Issues: The company allegedly only offered a partial settlement less than 24 hours before a small claims court hearing, after prolonged unresponsiveness.
This stark contrast in customer experiences suggests high variability in project outcomes and customer support, making it critical for prospective clients to exercise extreme caution and diligence.

For homeowners in Pennsylvania, particularly those in the Pottsville area, Becker Construction is a local contractor offering roofing and exterior home improvement services. Their presence in Pottsville provides convenience for residents seeking local service providers. One positive review highlights their potential for quick response times, efficient total roof replacement, and competitive pricing, which are appealing qualities for locals facing urgent needs or seeking value. This suggests that, under certain circumstances, Becker Construction can deliver a satisfactory outcome, particularly in fast-turnaround situations where a homeowner might be "in a bind."
However, the profoundly negative experience detailed in another extensive review raises serious concerns regarding consistency of workmanship, adherence to contract terms, timely project completion, and most notably, post-installation responsiveness and customer service. Issues such as improper installation techniques, hazardous debris, significant structural flaws, and an alleged unwillingness to address problems for months are critical red flags for any homeowner investing in major repairs. Therefore, while Becker Construction is a local option, potential clients in Pennsylvania are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution. It is paramount to conduct thorough due diligence, including checking multiple references, ensuring a comprehensive and clearly defined written contract with explicit clauses for quality control and dispute resolution, and potentially considering independent inspections before making full payments. This heightened level of scrutiny is essential to mitigate risks and ensure that any work performed on their valuable property is done correctly and to their satisfaction.

Becker Construction Reviews
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! They cost me a lot of time and thousands of dollars in repairs. The job was DEFINITELY NOT done right the first time. If you use them, you WILL have issues and they won’t respond. Here is a run down of all of the problems I had with them:-The shingles they installed were popped up and exposed the plywood decking underneath near my chimney-The gutters were cut too short, water would drip right off the shingles and down towards the ground (near my foundation)-They left a whole cartridge of roofing nails lying in my yard (sharp side up) in the area where my dogs play-Breached our contract by not using a magnetic sweep to clean up the nails. I’ve found 100+ so far and one found it’s way into my car tire, now I need a new tire-They tore a whole in my window screen-I caught workers walking on top of my deck railing, this material is not meant to hold that type of weight-They didn’t replace my drip edge (per contract they were supposed to)-They put 2 different sized flashing on my home-They used the wrong elbow joints and had to smash the pieces together to make them fit-The gutters were off-pitch and off-tilt-They installed gutter hangers on top of my shingles. My previous roof had the hangers installed under the shingles and never leaked for 25+ years. They lied to me saying that the hangers had to be on top of the shingle b/c having them under would cause leak risk. Not true as my old roof never leaked and the inspector + other roofing contractors told me that installing on top of the shingles was the lazy thing to do-They left 160ft of gutter sitting in my yard for 2 weeks. I had to email them several times to get them to come out and finish the job.-The downspouts looked like a 5 year old cut them, complete with a big wad of silicone to prevent leakage-They were going to order me non-venting skylights to replace my VENTING skylights. Luckily, I caught this in the contract, but who on Earth replaces something with a non-comparable item? Also, I later found out that you can order the skylights with blinds pre-installed, I was not given this option and it would’ve saved me a whole lot of hassle-There was a gap in the flashing on the one corner of my home, exposing the decking underneath-I tried for 3 MONTHS to get someone out to look at these issues. But they already had my money so they didn’t care. I was told for 2 months that a family emergency prevented them from coming out. Finally, I hired a certified roofing inspector to draw up a report. I submitted this to Becker’s and gave them 2 weeks to make the needed repairs. Mind you, this all started in August, this was now October and the deadline was November. I was NOT about to sit all winter with my roof exposed. They had the audacity to sit on that information for 11 days, not so much as a phone call. They emailed me 11 days later with no offer of an appointment. Needless to say the missed the deadline.I ended up taking them to small claims court and the owner calls me less than 24 hours before the hearing offering me basically half of what I was asking for. This was an admission of fault on their part. This whole process was VERY stressful for me. And all could’ve been avoided if they would’ve just come out to my home.IF you want an expensive lesson on roofs, hire Becker’s. If you want the job done right, find someone else! I’ve learned more about roofing/gutters/downspouts than I ever cared to.
Feb 06, 2018 · Krissy KlingerI was in a bind after a diy project went bad lol. Called Becker roofing they were awesome. The employee i spoke with Tiffany came to the house saw my trouble and made sure i was going to get the help i needed. She had a crew at my house the next day and i had my total roof replaced with a great price. And the pitch of my roof was extreme. I definitely know who to call for any of my roof repairs. Thanks again Becker roofing great job. 😀😀😀👍👍
Oct 11, 2020 · Peter P CherneskyCompany left much debris with adjoining neighbor, which they did not clean up. I also removed debris from my roof (over 30 nails). Satellite cables were pulled from clamps and not replaced. They also pulled up all of my adjoining flashing to replace neighbors roof, which they did not secure upon job completion. Many calls have not been heeded despite promises to rectify their damage.
Aug 17, 2017 · Ben McMillanCalled Beckers in December of last year. They sent out a man to come and check out the roof and he said the company would get in touch with us in about three weeks with an estimate. Months later and several phone calls later, no estimate. The woman I spoke to who answered the phone for the company said they won't send an estimate until two weeks before they are ready to do the work. Then why send someone out in the first place in DECEMBER? It is now June, six months later. No estimate. We found someone else to do our roofing project this summer.
Jun 09, 2019 · Lillian FreilerMy neighbor used Becker Roofing and got excellent results. Ten years ago they came and put on the roofing. It's as perfect a job as you'd ever want to see. Even as neighbors, we're happy to see a company do such a nice job.
