Doors and More Home Improvement, LLC Introduce
When undertaking home improvement projects, especially those as critical as roofing, selecting the right contractor is one of the most important decisions a homeowner can make. In Virginia, a state with a strong sense of community and pride in home ownership, finding a reliable, trustworthy, and skilled professional is paramount. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of a local company, Doors and More Home Improvement, LLC, based in Goodview, VA. By examining available public data and customer feedback, we can better understand the company's operations and help local residents make informed choices. The information presented here is drawn directly from customer reviews and public records, offering a factual, albeit cautionary, perspective on this business.
Doors and More Home Improvement, LLC is a company that has operated in the Virginia region, specifically from its base in Goodview. A key piece of information for any resident is to understand the nature of the business and the experiences of previous clients. While the company name suggests a wide range of services, customer reviews indicate that the owner, Troy Thomas, has undertaken various jobs from roofing and tile work to door and deck installations. However, these reviews also raise significant concerns about the quality of the work performed, the use of materials, and the professional conduct of the owner. As such, any homeowner considering this company for their next project should proceed with a high degree of caution and perform thorough due diligence. The goal of this article is not to invent or embellish, but to present a clear picture based on what has been publicly shared.
The physical location of a business is often the first point of contact for local customers. Doors and More Home Improvement, LLC is listed at 100 Deerhill Rd, Goodview, VA 24095, USA. Goodview is situated in Bedford County, Virginia, a rural area known for its scenic beauty and tight-knit communities. The company's address places it squarely within this local service area, suggesting its target clientele is primarily in Goodview and the surrounding towns. For residents in this region, the proximity of a contractor can be a deciding factor, as it often implies a better understanding of local building codes and a quicker response time. However, as the reviews highlight, a local address does not necessarily guarantee quality work or professional behavior.
Based on customer feedback, Doors and More Home Improvement, LLC has offered a variety of services, including:
- Roofing and gutter work, including accessing attics for fan replacement and soffit work.
- Bathroom renovations, specifically tile work for shower walls and floors.
- Installation of storm doors and back doors.
- Deck construction and repairs.
- General home improvement projects, such as building walls.
The range of services suggests a broad capability in home improvement. However, the reviews provide specific details on the execution of these services. For example, a customer reported that the tiling in a bathroom did not meet basic standards, with an incorrect slope, leading to standing water. Another review mentions the use of used doors that were simply painted over, rather than new ones as promised. These specific examples are crucial for anyone evaluating the company's capabilities and commitment to quality. The reviews consistently point to unfinished jobs and the use of subpar materials, a significant concern for any homeowner expecting professional-grade results.
Based on the provided customer reviews, several key features and highlights of Doors and More Home Improvement, LLC have been brought to light. It is important to note that these are presented from the perspective of the clients and are critical in nature.
- Alleged Misrepresentation of Credentials: A very serious claim made in one review is that the owner, Troy Thomas, states he is "licensed and bonded" but a check with the DPOR (Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation) revealed that he does not hold a valid contractor's license. This is a critical piece of information for any homeowner, as a lack of proper licensing can affect insurance coverage, project quality, and legal recourse in case of disputes.
- Issues with Workmanship: Multiple reviews cite "substandard" work, including a deck with uneven and crooked slats, a shower floor with an improper slope, and an incorrectly installed glass door that did not prevent water leakage. The reviews repeatedly mention the need for all the work to be redone by other contractors.
- Unfinished Projects and Communication Issues: Customers report that jobs were started but never completed. After receiving partial payments, the owner would allegedly stop showing up. When confronted, he was described as making excuses and blaming his employee, Jake, for mistakes.
- Use of Used or Substandard Materials: Reviews state that used storm doors were installed instead of new ones, and a door that was promised to be a specific color was found to be an old white door painted with spray paint. The use of cheap screen and shipping clips instead of proper molding was also noted.
- Lack of Permits and Code Compliance: A customer review claims that Troy did not secure the necessary permits for the work and that the jobs were not done to code or legal standards, which can create significant legal and safety issues for the homeowner.
- Vehicle and Property Damage: One review mentions that the company's vehicles, which were in disrepair, leaked fluids on the client's driveway, and the owner did not follow through on his promise to clean the stains.

Based on the overwhelming and consistent negative feedback from multiple customers, Doors and More Home Improvement, LLC, as led by Troy Thomas, is not a suitable choice for locals in Goodview and the greater Virginia area. The serious allegations of unlicensed work, substandard craftsmanship, use of improper materials, and a pattern of unfinished jobs and poor communication are all red flags that no homeowner should ignore. For any resident of Virginia, the integrity of a contractor is as important as their skill set. The reviews highlight that the work done by this company has not only been unsatisfactory but has also resulted in significant financial loss, with one customer stating they had to pay over $14,000 to have the work redone. For these reasons, local residents are strongly advised to seek out other, properly licensed, and reputable contractors for their home improvement needs to ensure their projects are completed safely, correctly, and to a professional standard. The provided information makes it clear that caution is not just recommended, but essential.

Doors and More Home Improvement, LLC Reviews
Troy Thomas did several jobs for us. Not only was the job substandard he killed my grass by leaving piles of wood in my yard, he painted a door on our newly renovated deck and got the paint all in our deck, he doesn't measure first so lots and lots of mistakes like he built a wall beside the shower and purchased a glass door, but the door was bigger than the opening he left, so he had to cut the wall about 2 inches and did a terrible job tiling not only the wall but the entire bath. The storm doors were used and what he said was a cranberry door when he purchased it turns out to be an old white door painted with spray paint. The screens were added with the cheapest screen, he held them in place with shipping clips that come with the doors instead of The molding that comes with a new door. I've asked for receipts but he never showed me any.The deck is piece mill. The slats at the end of the deck are not only not the same distance apart some of them are crooked! The bathroom tile does not go to the drain and he neglected to make the 1/4 inch slope on the seat as well so water just stands in the floor and on the seat.He didn't finish grouting the shower wall nor did he put the glass door in correctly. It's crooked and does not keep water off the floor due to the fact it wasn't installed correctly. He put a nice door on the back of house but within a week or so we could see mildew stains appear where he had a used door with mildew, cleaned it then stains came back through so he used spray paint to cover it up and also painted our deck! Please do not lay this man do work for you. We have contacted him many times but he will not make this right. He did however give us a bill for over $6000 when we fired him and quote was $4400. He said he had a lot in the bathroom but we supplied most of the tile, we had him redo it at least 8-9 times. He would blame Jake his employee instead of admitting his fault. He told us he had to fire 5 of his employees because they failed a drug test, then he said his girlfriend that he lives with was a drug addict. Every time we would pay him a portion of what was owed he wouldn't show up for at least 2 days. He would leave Jake here and not come back till end of day, leaving Jake here without ability to get lunch. Troy said he was checking on his old lady. Not sure what really happened but Troys work was really good when he first started then something happened and he made one rookie mistake after another. We have to have all of the work done over since doors are falling apart, deck was never finished and we had to stop him when he wasn't able to complete anything!
Sep 02, 2017 · Shane “so happy 2 be a fortniter” PetersonTroy Thomas who states he is the owner and operator of Doors & More home improvement also says he’s licensed and bonded. I checked with DPOR where license for contractors is obtained and he does not have a license nor is he bonded. This man has some limited knowledge but very little ability to perform any contractor job.He started several jobs for my family but completed None of them. He brought used doors and installed them and even after being asked to put new doors in their place he refused. He claims to be a man of his word but he hasn’t fulfilled a single contract as of yet. He was paid some of what was owed but we asked him to make things right first, he just stopped showing up.Today I had to take a look at the attic because it sounded like we may have a small drip from rain. Troy had to access the attic to replace a bathroom fan and when he was trying to replace soffit behind the gutters. In doing so he took apart the reflective insulation we have in the attic. Even balled up several pieces and left it laying up there. So far it has cost us $14K to have everything redone and we’re not done yet! Looks like it will cost another $2-3K to get it where this home is sound again. To top it all off he even did damage to our driveway. His vehicles were in disrepair and constantly leaked on the driveway, we asked that he not park there but if one of us was gone and driveway open he always parked there. He said he would clean the stains and tire marks from peeling out but he never did this either. The fella with him, Jake was amazing yet Troy was always putting him down and blaming him for the mistakes that were made. We saw Troy do the job but he always found a way to blame Jake. Please don’t make the same mistake we made. Do not let this man near your property! And if you do, don’t allow him to use excuses just to be able to keep working. And do not under any circumstances pay him until the job is really complete.Troy didn’t get permits to do his work, he said everything would be done according to code and the law. Nope, he lied yet again!!Troy is a nice guy but full of excuses till you call him out, then he runs!! Beware Beware Beware!!!!
