★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We hired Ray Austin (Owner of Homeview) as a general contractor for the renovation of a home in Pine City. Unfortunately, he has completely ended communication with us. He left the property in a very disorderly state, costing us significant time and money just cleaning up, as can be seen from the photos. He seems to have gotten in over his head with our project, and instead of being honest with us or making things right, he has taken our $$, completed work with critical errors, and ran before completing the project. Much of the work was not done properly (eg, all insulation not overlaped and stapled), is incomplete (eg, window trim not installed, framing not finished, plumbing not finished, electric not finished, holes in floors, etc) or already failing (eg, roof on porch flew off and needs replacing). We find new issues daily. I hope my review can save people the headaches we are experiencing.
Nov 19, 2022 · LindseyPlease read the reviews and take it in consideration! Ray came to give me an estimate to build a deck on my backyard by my pool in the end of June. After weeks when he sent me the estimate and we discussed cost of materials and agreed on what material I wanted the deck I agreed to pay $6,750 for the deck. ( he wasn’t the only quote I got nor the cheapest!) He asked 50% deposit to buy the materials and get the permit. On July 11th I gave him a check for $3,375 which he check on that exact same day, and he never came to do the job. Today is September 10 and nothing! I asked Ray for my deposit back and he said he never had anyone cancel a job on him and that he would give my deposit back once either he resells the material he purchased for the job ( which nothing showed up at my property, not even a box of screws) or if someone else hires him for a similar job. I told him that I wouldn’t accept that answer as those things aren’t in his control and none of it might ever happen. He said he would give me my deposit back in a week or two and still nothing, you won’t even ever hear from him if he replies to your texts4-5 days later you are lucky! So today I got the papers to sue him on small claims court and get my money back.Save your self the headache and your hard earned money and hire someone else, who follows through and has good work ethics! Would I have read those review and seen same has happened to other people, I would never had hired him! Good luck folks!
Sep 11, 2023 · Ana MachadoI'm writing this review on behalf of a family member, because they've been through enough with Ray Austin and his poorly-run business "Homeview."Ray entered into a contract with this family member eight months ago, and since been completely unprofessional in managing his work on the project. The following behaviors have been observed:- Leaving the job site a mess. Staff often left soda bottles, cigarette butts, and clothing in plain sight at day's end- Unanswered phone calls and text messages- More often than not, my family member is dealing with an excuse from Ray as to why he can't work on the site. For instance, he could not work one day because one of his staff had legal trouble that he (for some reason) needed to deal with.- Unable to produce materials purchased with client money (treks flooring, in this case). Ray claims the materials are in "storage," with no proof of purchase for the client.- Ray allowed a city home improvement project to lapse, even though he was given more than six months to complete the project before the grant expired.- Staff never spends a full day on site. The average work time is ~4 hours, and there has not been one time that the staff has worked a full week, even during a period in which the region had some of the nicest weather we've ever seen in the month of May!- Eight months later, the project remains unfinished and several thousand dollars worth of materials have not been produced. This is not an exhaustive list, but it should be enough for anyone reading it to reconsider entering into any sort of agreement with Ray Austin and HomeView. He is no longer in good standing with the Better Business Bureau, and there are a growing number of reviews that substantiate the claim I'm making here. The family member in question is in the process of bringing legal action against Ray Austin and HomeView.8 months does not seem like an unreasonable timeline to expect someone to finish a garage roof, home roof, and a deck. New homes are built in less time. With HomeView, you are running a very serious risk of entering into an agreement with an unethical businessman. Ray Austin will not be forthcoming about his timeline. He will not produce materials that have been purchased with your money. He will keep unprofessional work hours and he doesn't run a tight ship among his "crew."My family member is semi-retired and wants nothing more than to be able to sit on their front deck and enjoy the summer.I hope this review helps you make an informed decision.
Jun 12, 2023 · Donald AustinOver 2 months to complete our roof. Many texts to back up our experience. Days without communication, weeks after getting payment for supplies before they were bought. Ray was never on the job until the last day. Roof torn off for weeks before roof was finally placed. Took over 3 weeks once the roof was started. Major damage in house due to roof being torn off (tear off tooks weeks) with no replacement through many rain storms. Ray did not keep his word on timeline. Damage to home caused Major stress and Ray seemed uncaring. Many excuses, no follow through. Dumpster left in driveway for weeks causing us to not have full use of our driveway for weeks. 3 weeks later roof has waves and needs repair. Last day, gave check and they took it directly to the bank. Bank told them they needed to verify the check before they could cash it. Rays son called and ssid if they couldnt cash the check, they couldnt get home. Had to hire someone to clean out roofing materials from gutters. Would never recommend Ray for anything. If 0 stars was possible, that would be the review.
Aug 11, 2023 · jane stamlerThere's a lot I can tell you. I have multiple texts dates and times on paper of trying to communicate and even communicating when Ray was reachable. Bottom line. It took 2 .5 months for the finished roof. Had water leaks in garage and home. Ray did fix that but should not have happened.I now see wave pattern on my front of my roof. Had another roofer come down and look. The boards are a little soft and can raise up with time. The peaks of the house apparently they tucked the wrong part of the shingles in first. The boots around my vent pipes are up and not sealed on the roof tightly enough. The air circulation vents they used 2 inch nails not 3 inch so they are not penetrating into any wood so they can now get loose. They crossed the caps in the wrong direction on my gargae side and are sticking up. Had to reseal those down. Now I am paying 500 more to have a professional roofer fix this.He was not the least expensive. He came in just under the highest quote. There was less expensive quotes I got.I'm not sure what I'm going to do except call to get advice on how to recoup my monies. One more thing. He left a mess in my gutters and I'm also paying a gutter cleaning company to clean up his mess.
