Star Roofing Company Introduce
Hello, Virginia residents! The task of finding a reliable and trustworthy roofing contractor is a crucial one. Your home's roof is your primary defense against the elements, and entrusting its care to the right professionals is paramount. While many companies provide excellent service, it's also important to be aware of the challenges that can arise during the home improvement process. This article is designed to help you navigate the search for a reputable roofing contractor, using a specific example to highlight key considerations and best practices for homeowners in the Virginia region.
In the Suffolk area, a company named Star Roofing Company has been mentioned in customer reviews. The feedback from these reviews offers a valuable learning experience for anyone considering a roofing project. These accounts highlight the importance of doing thorough research before hiring a contractor. When selecting a company, it's not enough to simply get a quote; you need to feel confident in their integrity, their communication, and their ability to deliver on their promises. The reviews provided for Star Roofing Company point to several serious concerns, including a lack of promised work, poor craftsmanship, and a failure to honor commitments. One customer reported that the company did not perform the work they were contracted to do, such as replacing discolored shingles, and then attempted to charge full price. Another review, written on behalf of an elderly veteran, detailed a situation where the company allegedly convinced the individual to pay a significant deposit for a full roof replacement that was not needed, then failed to provide any service or a refund. These examples underscore the critical need for due diligence and an understanding of your rights as a consumer.
When you're looking for a roofing contractor, you want a company that operates with transparency and has a strong, verifiable history of satisfied customers. The reviews for Star Roofing Company serve as a cautionary tale, emphasizing the importance of securing a signed, detailed contract before any work begins or any money is exchanged. It also highlights the need to be wary of high-pressure sales tactics, especially when dealing with vulnerable individuals. The experiences of these customers should prompt any homeowner to verify a company's licensing, check for complaints with the Virginia Board of Contractors, and review their history with organizations like the Better Business Bureau. While it is not possible to cover all companies, these examples illustrate the types of issues that can arise and the steps you can take to protect yourself and your home. Choosing a contractor is a major decision, and taking the time to research thoroughly can save you from a great deal of stress and financial hardship.
Star Roofing Company is located at 2301 Airport Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434, USA. This physical location is situated in the heart of Suffolk, making the company accessible to residents throughout the Hampton Roads region. While the physical presence of a local business can be a positive sign, it is not the sole factor to consider. For locals, a company’s accessibility is crucial for initial consultations, ongoing communication, and potential follow-up needs. However, as the provided reviews suggest, even a local presence does not guarantee ethical or professional conduct. One customer's experience detailed a frustrating lack of communication, with repeated unreturned calls and no explanation for the failure to perform work or issue a refund. This highlights that accessibility must be paired with responsiveness and a commitment to customer service. Homeowners should use a company's local address as a starting point for their research, but always verify their reputation through online reviews, professional associations, and licensing bodies. The accessibility of a contractor is only beneficial if they are willing and able to communicate and stand behind their work.
The reviews provided for Star Roofing Company do not list any specific, successfully completed services, but rather describe the services they were contracted to perform. Based on these accounts, the company was hired for both roof repair and full roof replacement projects. While these are common services offered by most roofing contractors, the customer reviews suggest that the execution of these services was problematic. For example, one customer was told their chimney was reflashed, but the work was not completed properly and the new shingles did not match. In another instance, a customer was convinced to get a full roof replacement when only a simple repair was needed. These experiences highlight the importance of getting a clear, detailed scope of work in writing. A reputable contractor will be transparent about the services they are providing and will be able to explain why a particular course of action is necessary. They will also use materials that match or are appropriate for the rest of your roof, and they will complete the work as specified in the contract. A homeowner's best protection is to understand exactly what work is being done, and to not pay for any work that has not been properly completed.
Based on the provided reviews, the features and highlights of Star Roofing Company are not positive. Instead, the customer feedback points to several concerning issues that serve as a valuable lesson for any Virginia homeowner. These include:
- Misleading Estimates and Sales Tactics: The reviews describe instances where the company's representatives, including one named Pat, provided estimates that were either not honored or were allegedly part of a scheme to convince customers to undertake unnecessary work, such as a full roof replacement for a simple repair.
- Failure to Perform Contracted Work: Customers reported that the company took a down payment but failed to properly execute the work they were hired for. This included not replacing discolored shingles and performing a faulty chimney re-flashing with mismatched materials.
- Lack of Communication and Accountability: A major point of frustration for clients was the company’s lack of communication after receiving a deposit. They were unreachable by phone and failed to provide materials, perform the work, or issue a refund, which led to a complete breakdown of trust.
- Taking Deposits Without a Signed Contract: One review mentions that the company accepted a significant deposit for a new roof without a signed contract. This is a red flag that homeowners should be aware of, as it leaves them with very little legal recourse if the company fails to deliver.
- Allegations of Unethical Practices: The reviews include serious allegations, such as "obtaining money under false pretenses" and "contractor failing to deliver goods and services," which highlight the potential legal and ethical issues customers faced.
For those in Suffolk and the surrounding areas of Virginia, the contact information for Star Roofing Company is as follows: The address is 2301 Airport Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434, USA. The phone number is (757) 290-1158, and the mobile number is +1 757-290-1158. While this information is publicly available, the experiences shared by customers emphasize the need for extreme caution before initiating contact or entering into an agreement. Before engaging with any contractor, it is highly recommended to perform thorough research, check their licensing with the Virginia Board for Contractors, and read a wide variety of reviews from multiple sources. It is also crucial to get a written, signed contract that details the full scope of work, materials, timeline, and payment schedule. Do not provide a large down payment without this crucial document in hand. If you have had a negative experience with a contractor, you have the right to file a complaint with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, as one of the reviewers mentioned they were doing.
Based on the provided customer feedback, it is important for Virginia locals to exercise extreme caution when considering Star Roofing Company for any roofing needs. The reviews detail a pattern of alleged misconduct, including poor workmanship, a failure to complete contracted work, and a concerning lack of communication after receiving payments. The experiences of customers, including an elderly veteran who was allegedly taken advantage of, serve as a stark reminder of the importance of doing your homework. A reliable roofing contractor should operate with integrity, provide clear communication, and stand by their work with a detailed contract. They should never pressure you into an unnecessary job or take a large deposit without a signed agreement. While this article is not a definitive statement, it is a compilation of publicly available information from customer experiences. For any homeowner in Suffolk or the surrounding Virginia region, the best course of action is to perform a comprehensive review of any contractor you consider, seeking out a company with a strong, positive reputation and a demonstrated history of ethical business practices. Your home and your financial well-being depend on it.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Was not a good experience. Got estimate for work and when they came out to do work didn't do what they were suppose to do. Then tried to charge me full price for work they didn't do. They reflashed a chimney and didn't even match the shingles. They took a down payment and didn't do the job right. They were also were supposed to buy and replace shingles that were discolored. Do not allow Pat to give estimates . He lies.
Sep 08, 2021 · Gregg WeberWriting for my elderly father in law who isn't on line. They surveyed a simple ridge vent repair and convinced him he needed a whole new roof. Then talked him into a $4300 deposit with no signed contract. Duke then cashed the check. A second vendor gave a more appropriate quote and scope of work per insurance requirements. Contacted Duke about refunding the deposit / revising the work a few days later and was told they would. Over 3 months later, still no refund. He and I both have called their office and cells repeatedly but no return calls and still no refund, materials, work, or communication to this day. They clearly don't want to discuss, provide the work, nor refund anything. Basically they took money for services and material but never delivered nor offered an explanation. So now we're filing an ethics complaint with VA board of contractors against their most current of many licenses and name changes, and probably additional local charges for apparently obtaining money under false pretenses, contractor failing to deliver goods and services, maybe grand theft as well if the magistrate sees fit It's a shame, but all they really had to do was answer a phone and explain why they think they're entitled to the money of an elderly veteran on a fixed income without actually providing the goods or services of same value or even contacting him to discuss. They apparently believe they earned it somehow and need it more then he does.
Mar 04, 2021 · Chris KinseyWe had a pipe burst and had water damage in a section of our house. Plumbers came quickly fixed it and found it had been leaking for a while. Restoration team came out and removed damaged walls and set up dryersIt was then time to find a contractor to do the repairs. When Duke Roofing came out the guy was super nice gave us a quote and said they were about 2 weeks out. 3 months later they got started. Took them a long time due to having to schedule this person to do this and that person to do that. Work was not great. Painter spilled paint on carpet and didn’t tell us. Touched up the trim with the wrong paint. Paint knocked off places that they didn’t paint over. Had a few things that they needed to fix and I ask them to come back to do that. Never saw them.Long story short, we are repainting the trim and doing the small things that we paid them to do.We will definitely not be using them again.
Aug 31, 2021 · Lsurie WillmanThe flashing around my chimney sprung a leak which was streaking and leaking through the paneling near the chimney. I caulked it with roofing and flashing sealant which stopped it for awhile but eventually the leak returned. A leaky roof is nothing to play around with as the cost of repair becomes more expensive the longer the leak persists.I contacted Duke Roofing and Mr. John Duke called me and said he could help me out and sent someone out quickly to perform an estimate. The work was done right and close to estimate (there was a slight extra charge to replace rotted wood but that is to be expected if there is a prolonged leak). They replaced the skylight, chimney flashing, shingles, and plumbing boots for $1400. All the work was done in a single day.Braxton Barnhill did most of the work which turned out great. Braxton contacted me to set a data and time to do the work and even worked with Mr. Duke to accommodate my work schedule. Braxton is very courteous and professional, and a great roofer on top of it. The job was done right and the job site was clean when they left, inside and out. Mr. Duke came out personally while the work was ongoing and is very nice.We have had some very heavy downpours since having the work done and I am happy to say the leak is gone. If you are looking for a local roofer that is family owned and cares about their craftsmanship look no further than Duke Roofing. Highly recommended.
Aug 10, 2016 · Joe NanevilleUnlike other roofers I called to get my job done, Duke Roofing answered the phone each time I called and my question was answered promptly. The job was done on time and at a fair price. The roofers cleaned up so well I couldn't even tell they were here. I highly recommend this company. Braxton Barnhill is a pleasure to work with.
