The Roofer Introduce
When it comes to homeownership in Michigan, a reliable and well-installed roof is an absolute necessity. The state's unpredictable weather, with its cycles of heavy snow, strong winds, and hailstorms, puts a roof to the ultimate test. For residents of Hartford and the surrounding areas, selecting a trustworthy roofing contractor is a critical decision that directly impacts the safety and value of their most important investment. In the search for a local professional, homeowners often rely on referrals and reviews to guide their choice. This article takes a comprehensive and factual look at a contractor known as The Roofer, located in Hartford, with a focus on available public data, including a detailed customer review. It is essential for local users to be fully informed about a company's reputation, not just on the quality of their initial work but also on their commitment to follow-up, communication, and overall professionalism.
The importance of a properly installed roof cannot be overstated. A roof acts as your home's primary defense against water damage, structural issues, and energy loss. A faulty installation, improper materials, or a lack of attention to detail can lead to costly problems down the line, turning what was supposed to be a home improvement project into a significant financial burden. The customer feedback provided for The Roofer highlights some serious concerns that are vital for any prospective client to consider. The review mentions a flat roof that was replaced, only to experience leaks and curling less than a year later. Most alarmingly, a subsequent inspection by another professional revealed that the new roof was "literally just sitting there, unattached to my house" and was the "wrong type of roof." This kind of information is crucial for any local homeowner, as it speaks directly to the quality of workmanship and the long-term integrity of the work performed.
Beyond the initial installation, a contractor's commitment to standing by their work is a defining characteristic of a reputable business. The review for The Roofer raises significant red flags regarding post-service communication and accountability. Despite multiple attempts to contact the contractor after issues arose, the customer reported a lack of response, ultimately having to hire someone else to assess the damage. This highlights a critical lesson for locals: a contractor's reputation is built not only on the work they do on day one but on their reliability and communication long after the invoice is paid. In a community like Hartford, where word-of-mouth and trust are so important, a lack of responsiveness can be just as damaging to a company's reputation as poor craftsmanship. It underscores the need for homeowners to perform due diligence and consider all aspects of a company's service record before making a hiring decision.
The Roofer is located in the Hartford, Michigan area, with an address at 69651 Shar Sue Dr, Hartford, MI 49057, USA. This location places the business within the community, which theoretically should make it accessible for local residents in Hartford and surrounding Van Buren County. For homeowners in the area, a local presence can be a key factor in choosing a contractor, as it often suggests a deeper understanding of local building codes and a commitment to the community.
A local address can provide a sense of security and convenience, allowing for easier communication and potentially quicker response times for both initial quotes and any follow-up work. However, the customer review suggests that a local address does not automatically guarantee prompt or effective communication. This underscores the need for local users to look beyond a company’s physical presence and investigate their full service record. While being local is an important consideration, it is only one part of the equation when it comes to hiring a professional for a critical task like roof repair or replacement.
Based on the provided information, the core service offered by The Roofer is roof replacement and repair. The customer review details an instance where the contractor was hired to replace an "almost flat roof."
Roof Replacement: The company provides services for replacing existing roofs. In the case of the customer review, this involved replacing a flat roof on the back of a house. The review, however, notes significant issues with the quality and type of roof installed, suggesting a potential lack of expertise or attention to detail in this area.
Roof Repair: The contractor also offers repair services. After the initial installation, the customer reported a leak and the contractor did return to perform a repair. This indicates that at one point, the contractor was willing to address a problem. However, the subsequent lack of response for another issue suggests this willingness may not be consistent, leaving the customer with a lingering problem and no recourse.
Flashing Installation: The customer review specifically mentions that flashing was paid for but never installed. Flashing is a critical component of a watertight roof, and its absence is a serious concern. This suggests that the scope of work was not completed as agreed upon, which is a major factor for any potential client to consider when evaluating this business.
The information available presents a complex picture of The Roofer's features and highlights. While one might hope to highlight positive attributes, the provided customer review offers a perspective that is crucial for locals to understand.
Initial Responsiveness: A positive highlight in the review is that the contractor did respond to the initial leak and came back to perform a repair. This shows a temporary willingness to address problems, which is a consideration for some homeowners.
Significant Workmanship Concerns: The most significant and concerning feature is the quality of the workmanship. The fact that the roof was "unattached" and the "wrong type of roof" represents a major failure of professional standards. This is a critical piece of information for any homeowner looking for a long-lasting and safe roofing solution.
Poor Communication and Follow-up: A defining feature of this contractor’s service, according to the review, is a complete lack of follow-up communication after a second issue arose. This unresponsiveness after a problem is a major negative highlight and is a key factor in the customer’s frustration and decision to hire a new contractor.
Failure to Complete Agreed-Upon Work: The customer paid for flashing that was never installed. This highlights a severe lack of integrity and transparency, as the contractor allegedly made the roof "look like work had been done" without actually completing the paid-for service. This is a serious ethical issue and a major concern for any potential customer.

In conclusion, for residents of Hartford and the surrounding region, it is critically important to thoroughly research any contractor before hiring them for a significant home improvement project. The provided information about The Roofer highlights the importance of not just a company's initial promises but also their track record of quality workmanship and customer service. The detailed customer review raises severe concerns about the quality of the work performed, the use of proper materials, and the contractor's commitment to addressing issues after the job is done. A local company should be a source of trust and reliability, and the reported experiences fall short of these expectations.
While a local presence is a nice convenience, it is ultimately a contractor's integrity, skill, and accountability that truly matter. For locals in the community, the key takeaway is to prioritize due diligence, ask for multiple references, and carefully vet all contractors. The roof is too important of a component of your home to leave to chance. As one customer unfortunately discovered, a quick or cheap fix can end up costing you significantly more in the long run. By carefully considering all available information, local homeowners can make a more informed decision and find a reputable professional who will truly stand by their work and protect their home for years to come.

The Roofer Reviews
He replaced the almost flat roof on the back of my house. It leaked and he came back and repaired it. Now, less than a year later, it’s beginning to curl up. I called and he said he’d come....3 weeks ago and nothing....I called again 2 weeks ago and left a message asking him to please come and repair it. He never returned my call. I will now have to pay someone else to fix it.Update-A real roofer just came to repair my roof and I found out I need a new one! The roof “The Roofer” put down is literally just sitting there, unattached to my house and it’s the wrong type of roof. The flashing I paid him to put in was never done, he just threw some shingles over the existing ones to make it look like work had been done.
