For homeowners and businesses across Pennsylvania, the roof is a critical component of any structure, providing essential protection from the elements, contributing to energy efficiency, and impacting overall property value. When it comes to something as vital as roof repair, replacement, or any significant home improvement project, selecting the right contractor is paramount. In areas like Norristown, Montgomery County, and the surrounding regions, residents have a variety of choices, making due diligence an incredibly important step in the decision-making process.
Choosing a roofing contractor involves more than just comparing price quotes. It requires careful consideration of a company's reputation, track record, communication practices, and adherence to professional standards, including obtaining necessary permits and completing projects as agreed. This article aims to provide a general overview of what local users in Pennsylvania should prioritize when seeking a roofing contractor, emphasizing the importance of thorough research to ensure a positive and reliable experience for their home or business improvement needs.
When considering a roofing contractor, their physical presence and accessibility within the community can be an important factor. A company located at 300 W Freedley St, Norristown, PA 19401, USA, for example, is situated in a central area of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. This location theoretically makes them easily accessible to residents and businesses in Norristown and surrounding areas, including East Norriton, Plymouth Meeting, and King of Prussia.
A local presence can imply familiarity with regional architectural styles, specific building codes, and the unique weather patterns that affect properties throughout Pennsylvania. Proximity might also suggest quicker response times for initial consultations or in emergency situations. However, accessibility extends beyond just a physical address. It also encompasses a contractor's willingness and ability to communicate effectively, respond to inquiries, and ensure that clients feel informed and supported throughout the entire project. While a local address offers potential convenience, it is crucial for property owners to verify that this physical presence is matched by consistent and reliable communication practices and a commitment to completing work to agreed-upon standards.
When engaging a roofing contractor, it's essential to understand the full scope of services they claim to offer. A comprehensive contractor typically provides a range of solutions for both residential and commercial properties. These services usually include:
- Roof Repair: This involves fixing specific issues such as leaks, damaged shingles, flashing problems, or other localized damage caused by storms, wear and tear, or unforeseen events. Effective repair can often extend the life of an existing roof.
- Roof Replacement: When a roof has reached the end of its lifespan or sustained irreparable damage, a contractor should be equipped to perform a complete tear-off and installation of a new roofing system. This includes guiding the client through material selection, such as asphalt shingles, metal roofing, or other specialized options.
- New Roof Installation: For new construction projects, contractors install complete roofing systems, ensuring proper foundational work and adherence to all building codes.
- Siding Installation and Repair: Many roofing contractors also offer siding services, as the exterior envelope of a building is interconnected. This includes installing new siding materials like vinyl, fiber cement, or wood, and repairing existing damaged siding.
- Gutter and Downspout Services: Proper drainage is crucial for a roof's longevity. Contractors often install, repair, or replace gutters and downspouts to ensure water is effectively diverted away from the foundation.
- Skylight Installation: Some contractors have expertise in installing or replacing skylights, which requires careful sealing and integration with the roofing system to prevent leaks.
- Capping: This refers to installing protective coverings, often made of aluminum or PVC, over wooden fascia boards, window trims, or other exterior elements to provide weather protection and reduce maintenance.
- Concrete Work: While less common for a primary roofing contractor, some may offer related services like concrete slab installation or steps, particularly for exterior access points, demonstrating a broader construction capability.
- Permit Acquisition: A professional contractor should assist with or independently obtain all necessary permits from local boroughs or townships before commencing work, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
When evaluating any roofing or construction contractor, potential clients in Pennsylvania should look for several key features and highlights that indicate professionalism, reliability, and quality workmanship. These are crucial elements for a successful project:
- Clear Communication: A highly regarded contractor will exhibit consistent responsiveness to inquiries, provide timely updates, and maintain open lines of communication throughout the entire project, from initial estimate to completion.
- Adherence to Schedule: Projects should be completed within agreed-upon timelines. Delays can occur, but a professional contractor will communicate them transparently and explain any necessary adjustments.
- Transparent and Accurate Quoting: Estimates should be detailed, clear, and honor the agreed-upon price without hidden fees or unexpected charges. Any changes to the scope or cost should be discussed and approved in writing.
- Quality Workmanship: The finished product should be of high quality, structurally sound, and aesthetically pleasing. Materials should be installed correctly according to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
- Proper Permitting: A reputable contractor will always obtain necessary permits from local authorities. This ensures the work complies with safety and building codes and protects the homeowner.
- Proper Insurance and Licensing: Contractors should be fully licensed and insured, including general liability and worker's compensation. This protects both the homeowner and the workers in case of accidents or damage.
- Reputation and References: Strong positive reviews, testimonials, and verifiable references are indicators of past client satisfaction. While one or two negative reviews can be an anomaly, a pattern of unaddressed complaints should be a significant red flag.
- Completion of Agreed Work: The contractor should complete all aspects of the job as detailed in the contract, without abandoning projects or leaving work unfinished.
- Professional and Skilled Crew: The team performing the work should be experienced, knowledgeable, and respectful of the property.
When considering any roofing or construction work, direct communication is key. Potential clients should use the provided contact information to initiate discussions, ask questions, and request detailed estimates.

For residents and businesses across Pennsylvania, particularly in Norristown and the wider Montgomery County area, selecting a roofing contractor requires a comprehensive and cautious approach. While a local presence can be convenient, the ultimate suitability of a contractor hinges on their professional conduct, adherence to contractual agreements, and the quality of their completed work. It is paramount for locals to conduct thorough research, including checking multiple references, verifying licenses and insurance, and ensuring all necessary permits are obtained before any work begins. Reviews from previous customers, while sometimes varied, can offer valuable insights into a company's reliability, communication, and commitment to project completion and quality. When entrusting such vital projects to a contractor, prioritizing clear communication, transparent pricing, and a proven track record of successfully finished jobs will lead to a more secure and satisfying outcome for your Pennsylvania property. Always ensure your chosen contractor is trustworthy and capable of delivering the quality work your home or business deserves.

DeMarco Family Roofing Reviews
Under no circumstances should anyone ever hire Danny DeMarco. He and his father are thieves, do HORRIBLE work and will take the money without finishing the job. I had some damage to my roof caused by a storm. Danny was recommended by a “friend” and he wrote up an agreement that he would make the repairs. He worked for a day saying he would be back and never returned. When I reached out to the company to ask what was going on because now the work they did do is falling off, they said come back out & fix the work. NONE of that ever happened and it is now full on raining INDOORS.
Aug 16, 2024 · Monica HanssensDo not use DeMarco Family Roofing he is unreliable and does substandard work. You will regret using this company. I hired them for a roofing job that included the installation of a skylight, siding, capping and a concrete slab with steps to the back door. The first day on the job some things went missing from the house. No permit was obtained from the borough and he did not properly complete any of the agreed work. He was constantly behind schedule and the job he said would be completed in two weeks was abandoned after six weeks. His pis poor work lead to water damage to ceilings, walls and light fixtures. It also lead to problems to the adjacent home on both sides. He abandoned the job after receiving over $7000. I am suing Demarco roofing in small claims court at this time. Our court hearing was on 2/28/18 and he failed to come to court to defend himself as there is no defending how he conducts business. I had to hire another Roofer to correct his many mistakes and finish the job. This required almost completely redoing the job costing me twice what it should have. His helpers were unskilled people from the block. You will regret using this company. Spare yourself and find someone who can do the job right. He is not trustworthy.
