Up On The Rooftop Introduce
For residents of Illinois, a dependable and trustworthy roofing contractor is an absolute necessity. Our state's weather can be unpredictable, from severe thunderstorms and hail to heavy winter snowfalls. When your home is damaged, the last thing you want is a stressful and complicated repair process. Homeowners need to be able to rely on a local company that is not only skilled in their craft but also honest and transparent in their business practices. This is a story about the importance of due diligence and careful research when selecting a contractor. "Up On The Rooftop," a company based in Oak Brook, Illinois, provides a case study in why a homeowner's experience can vary dramatically and why it is critical to investigate a company's reputation beyond its initial pitch.
The initial moments after a storm can be overwhelming. Homeowners are often in a vulnerable position, trying to secure their property and navigate the complex world of insurance claims. This is when many people seek out professional help from a contractor. While some companies are pillars of their community, building their reputation on years of quality work and satisfied customers, others may not be. The following information, based on real customer accounts, serves as a cautionary tale for local Illinois residents. It is a reminder that while the promise of a quick and easy solution can be appealing, the reality can be very different. The goal of this article is to empower Illinois homeowners with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions and avoid potential pitfalls.
The information presented here is compiled from public data and customer reviews, providing a factual and direct look at the experiences of real people. It is a guide to what to watch out for and how to protect yourself and your home when engaging with a contractor.
Up On The Rooftop is an entity located in Oak Brook, Illinois. Their listed address is 2021 Midwest Rd Ste 200, Oak Brook, IL 60523, USA. Oak Brook is a suburb of Chicago and a central location that would, in theory, allow a company to serve a broad range of communities in the western suburbs and beyond. A local office presence is often seen as a sign of a legitimate and accessible business, which can be a reassuring factor for local homeowners.
However, accessibility is not just about a physical address; it is also about a company's responsiveness and willingness to communicate with its clients. The experiences shared by some customers raise questions about this company's operational accessibility after they have secured a contract. A local company should be a reliable partner from the first consultation to the final handshake, and a key part of this relationship is consistent and open communication. For homeowners in Illinois, it is essential to look for a contractor who is not only geographically close but also consistently available to address concerns throughout the entire project.
Based on the provided information, Up On The Rooftop’s business model seems to involve a range of services related to roofing and insurance claims.
Services Offered:
- Roof Replacement: The company’s primary service appears to be roof replacement, often initiated after storm damage. They engage with homeowners to secure a contract for the work.
- Storm Damage Assessment: They send out an inspector or a salesman to a property to assess storm damage. This is a common practice among roofing contractors after a major weather event.
- Insurance Claim Assistance: A key part of their process is helping homeowners navigate the insurance claim process. According to customer accounts, they may work with an external Public Adjuster or Public Service Adjustor (PSA) company to handle negotiations with the insurance provider. This service is designed to help homeowners get funds for the necessary repairs.
While these services are standard in the roofing industry, the way in which they are carried out is what truly defines a company's reputation. The customer feedback provided paints a picture of a process that, for some, starts professionally but does not end with the completion of the promised work. This is a critical point for any homeowner to consider, as the initial services, like the assessment and insurance claim filing, can be just the beginning of a long and frustrating journey if the company does not follow through.
The features and highlights of a company are usually what they promote to attract new business. However, when looking at a company from the perspective of a local user, it is important to consider the features that a company actually delivers on, based on customer experiences.
Features and Highlights (from customer perspective):
- Initial Professionalism: According to customer reviews, the initial contact with Up On The Rooftop can be professional. A salesman or inspector responds quickly to a homeowner's call and assesses the damage. This quick response can be a compelling feature for someone in a stressful situation.
- Working with Insurance: A key feature they seem to offer is handling the insurance claim process, sometimes with a third-party company. This promise to take the burden of negotiation off the homeowner's shoulders can be a powerful incentive.
However, these initial positives are overshadowed by very serious concerns raised in customer accounts. The reviews state that after receiving insurance funds, the company stopped responding to messages, ghosted clients, and failed to perform any of the promised work. This is a critical red flag for any potential customer. The features that a company advertises are only as good as their follow-through. In this case, the promised professionalism and insurance assistance appear to have, in some instances, led to homeowners losing a significant amount of money and being left with damaged property and no recourse.
The contact information for Up On The Rooftop is as follows:
Address: 2021 Midwest Rd Ste 200, Oak Brook, IL 60523, USA
Phone: (630) 570-0355
Having this information is essential for both initial contact and, in some cases, for attempting to follow up with a company that has not completed its work. The local phone number might provide a sense of security, but as the customer reviews suggest, this does not guarantee a positive outcome. The accessibility of a business is measured not just by its contact details but by its willingness to engage with customers throughout the entire contracted process.
For Illinois locals, the provided information about Up On The Rooftop offers a crucial lesson in selecting a roofing contractor. While the company may present itself as a professional and capable entity, the serious accusations of scamming and failure to perform work from multiple customers make it unsuitable for locals looking for a reliable partner. The experiences of homeowners who have lost thousands of dollars and were forced to pay a different, local company out of their own pocket to fix the damage are a stark warning. The key takeaway for any resident of Illinois is that due diligence is non-negotiable. Before signing a contract, especially one that involves an insurance claim, it is vital to research a company's reputation, check for complaints with organizations like the Better Business Bureau, and speak with multiple references. A reputable company will have a long history of satisfied customers and a transparent process. In the case of Up On The Rooftop, the information suggests they may not be a suitable choice for any homeowner looking to protect their property. This serves as a reminder to always hire a trusted, vetted, and genuinely local company with a strong and positive community reputation.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I contacted Up on the Rooftop late last year and started an insurance claim to replace a roof on a rental property. Initially, UOTR was very professional and set me up with Public AAfter receiving funds from my insurance company, UOTR stopped responding to messages. Bill Steber/UOTR has received over $3,000 and no work has been done. This company is a total scam! I learned a valuable lesson and will hire a local company to do the work.
Jul 27, 2022 · Kevin CallarmanBBEWARE*****My husband contacted UOTR to replace our roof due to storm damage, initially they were quick to respond and sent a salesman and inspector out. Then we were contacted by a PSA Company who evidently took over dealing with our insurance company, they received over $17,987 in insurance funds and we never heard from the company again. We have filed reports with our police and are still out the money. We finally paid a local company out of pocket to do the job that we paid UOTR to do.DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY OR THEIR PSA PUBLIC SERVICE ADJUSTORS! They are true scam artists!
Oct 30, 2022 · debbie KruzanDO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! THEY'RE SCAM ARTISTS! On August 10, 2020 a storm did serious wind and hail damage to the roofs of my storage facility in Wenona, IL. I employed (name withheld) Roofing to give me an estimate for repair of the damage. The insurance came back with a very low payout and ******* Roofing suggested I hire JC Adjusters to handle the insurance claim. I did that, and when I signed the paperwork I noticed that another roofing company was listed as the contractor (UOTR,inc.). I then asked the contact person who reached out to me about it and he said that they were a subcontractor for ***** Roofing and that I was indeed still working with the same company. This turned out not to be true! I was told during the adjusting process that I was not to contact my insurance company. JC Adjusters then hired a law firm to further work on the claim, and after an appraisal board and an umpire were finally brought in, the claim was fully paid and closed. By March 22, 2022 when the claim was closed, UOTR received a total of $62,325.18. When I tried to reach out to schedule the work, they told me that they had no idea how to do the work with that small amount of money and that they were seeking out subcontractors to give bids to them on the job. After several phone calls trying to find out when the job could be done, they finally blocked my phone number and they refuse to answer any of my emails or voicemails. I have even tried to send a message to them through their website. I believe they intend to keep my insurance money and not do the work.DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! Bill Steber and Lesther Ventura are straight up crooks! Read their BBB reviews- all they do is steal money from unsuspecting consumers! They belong in jail and I will do everything in my power to make sure they end up there!
Jul 29, 2022 · April NicolaidesUpdate: July 14th, 2022 - Apparently the company is shutting down and there has been no communication to existing customers/customers who have already paid .AVOID THIS COMPANY! My husband and I started the roof replacement process on June 18 2021, it is now July 5 2022. They received the check from our insurance company in January 2022, we signed a work order for work to begin April 4th on March 23, 2022. Three months later, work has not started on our roof. My husband has to call to find out "we will be there next week" from Ingrid. It has been next week for 12 weeks. Now they will not answer their phone or return our phone calls. This company does not communicate and seems to take their client money and run. I will update this review as needed, but do not waste your time with this company.
Jul 14, 2022 · Chelsea KrossTerrible experience! My air conditioner stopped working. I had another company come to work on it. Midway through the work completion found out that up on the roof top poked a hole in a pipe while completing my roof. They wanted me to stop the people currently working on the air conditioning ( about 35 min into the work) so they can come and work on the air conditioning. This was unacceptable to me. If I knew initially what the problem was I would not have hesitated for up on the roof top to comeAnd fix it. But they wanted me to allow 2 different companies to work on my air conditioning and this was certainly uncalled for. In addition they were supposed to work on the roof of the house and garage. They completed the house but said they did not have enough materials for the garage. It is now 5/29 /21. My garage is still not complete and we signed the contract in August. Don’t let the friendliest fool you stay away from these people. If they think they can get you they will! They get 0Stars.
