Although Detweiler's Metal Roofing did put a quality metal roof on my parents' house, I was surprised and frustrated by the lack of professionalism. A job that was supposed to take 4 days at the end of June is finally finished in mid September. The quality of the work is acceptable but the level of stress in dealing with Dan has been upsetting. The whole point of replacing the roof was to avoid leaking and water damage, but they started the project and then didn't show up again for 3 weeks during which time water got in through unsealed skylights. They came to patch it which was ineffective and then did not put in further work for another 1.5 weeks during which time there was further leaking and damage. The only time they did work was a direct result of my phone calls. Three weeks would pass with no communication and no work completed. I would call, they would show up the next day. By the end of the project I was calling daily to remind them to do their job.No record of contracts or payments was kept by them which led to them asking for duplicate or inaccurate payments. If you work with them make sure to keep detailed records of agreed prices and payments made. Toward the end of the project, they had the audacity to show up at my elderly parents' house angrily demanding the remainder of the money for the project when it was not yet completed. I had hired them and was paying for the roof (not my parents) which they were well aware of, and the agreement was to pay the second half upon completion of the project. After I mailed the final check he again showed up and harassed my dad to write a duplicate check because he “had bills to pay and needed the money now”. Now we have to deal with the bank to cancel a check.Unprofessional and unreliable. - Sarah Bean

Detweiler's Metal Roofing Introduce

Hello, Ohio residents! When it comes to protecting your home or business from our region's diverse weather, a strong and durable roof is essential. Many Ohio homeowners and business owners are turning to metal roofing for its longevity and resilience against snow, ice, wind, and rain. If you're considering a metal roof for your property, finding a specialized and reliable contractor is a key step. This article is designed to provide you with a comprehensive overview of Detweiler's Metal Roofing, a company located in Cortland, Ohio. We will delve into their location, the specialized services they reportedly offer, and the key features that define their work, all based on publicly available information and customer feedback. Our goal is to present a factual, friendly, and informative perspective to help you, as a local user, make an informed decision about your roofing needs. As with any business, it is always a good practice to conduct your own thorough research and speak with the company directly before engaging in any project.

As a local resident, you understand that a contractor's reputation is built on two main pillars: the quality of their work and the professionalism of their service. Detweiler's Metal Roofing, according to customer reviews, has a mixed track record on these fronts. While one customer praises the "excellent job on my very challenging roof" and highly recommends them, another review details a challenging experience marked by significant delays, poor communication, and a lack of professionalism. This feedback highlights a crucial point: that while the quality of the final product may be high, the process of getting there can be a major part of the customer experience. We will explore both sides of this feedback to give you a balanced view, underscoring the importance of clear contracts, detailed record-keeping, and consistent communication when working with any contractor. The positive review showcases their skill with difficult projects, while the negative review serves as a cautionary tale about the potential for project management issues. This information is vital for any Pennsylvania local considering a metal roof installation.

Detweiler's Metal Roofing is a local business based at 114 S High St, Cortland, OH 44410, USA. This location places them right in the heart of Trumbull County, a strategic position that allows them to serve not only the Cortland community but also the surrounding areas. Being a local company offers a significant advantage, as they are likely to be intimately familiar with the specific weather challenges, architectural styles, and building regulations that are unique to this part of Ohio. For residents, this local presence can provide a sense of security and accountability. Their physical address on South High Street provides them with a base for their operations, making them a part of the local economy and community fabric.

The accessibility of a local contractor is a key benefit for any homeowner or business owner. It can lead to faster response times, especially in the case of a roofing emergency, and can simplify the process of in-person consultations and project oversight. Their proximity to the communities they serve means they have a vested interest in maintaining a good reputation within the region. However, as one review pointed out, a local presence doesn't automatically guarantee consistent communication or timely service. This is an important consideration for potential customers—that while a local contractor may be physically close, clear communication protocols are essential for a smooth project. Despite this, their location in Cortland provides them with a strong base to operate from, and a focus on local service is often a preference for many residents seeking a roofing partner who understands the specific needs of properties in Trumbull County and beyond.

Based on their name and customer feedback, Detweiler's Metal Roofing reportedly specializes in a specific type of service. While they may offer a range of services, their core expertise appears to be in:

  • Metal Roof Installation: The company's name itself highlights this specialization. Their work reportedly involves installing new metal roofs, a durable and long-lasting alternative to traditional asphalt shingles. One customer review specifically mentions them putting a "quality metal roof on my parents' house," and another praises their work on a "very challenging roof."
  • Handling Challenging Projects: The positive review explicitly mentions their ability to handle a "very challenging roof." This suggests they have the skills and experience to tackle complex architectural designs or difficult installations that other contractors might shy away from.
  • Roof Repair and Replacement: As a roofing contractor, it's highly likely they also offer services to repair existing metal roofs or replace other types of roofs with a new metal system. Their work likely covers the full scope of metal roofing needs.
  • Material Expertise: Their specialization in metal roofing means they have an in-depth understanding of the materials, installation techniques, and maintenance requirements for this type of roof, ensuring the final product is both durable and aesthetically pleasing.

The specialization in metal roofing is a significant feature, as it indicates a deep level of expertise in a particular product, which can be highly beneficial for customers who have already decided on this type of roofing system.

Based on customer feedback, there are several key features and highlights associated with Detweiler's Metal Roofing, though it is important to consider both the positive and negative accounts:

  • High-Quality Workmanship: A consistent theme in both reviews is the quality of the final product. One review states they "did an excellent job," and another mentions a "quality metal roof." This suggests that when the project is completed, the workmanship is often of a high standard.
  • Expertise with Challenging Roofs: The positive review specifically mentions their skill in handling a "very challenging roof," which is a significant highlight. This indicates they are not just capable of simple installations but can also tackle complex architectural projects.
  • Significant Delays and Poor Communication: A major point of concern raised in one review is the extensive delays and a lack of proactive communication. A project that was supposed to take a few days reportedly stretched over several months, with work only progressing after the customer initiated contact.
  • Lack of Professionalism in Management: The same review highlights issues with project management, record-keeping, and billing. Concerns were raised about not keeping track of contracts or payments, leading to requests for duplicate payments, and a distressing incident of demanding money from elderly parents.
  • Unreliable Scheduling: The review also points out that the company was "unreliable" and had issues sticking to a schedule, which led to further damage to the property from unsealed areas during rain.

These varied highlights showcase the company's strengths in a specialized craft but also point to potential weaknesses in project management and customer service, which are crucial factors for any client.

Their location in Cortland provides the convenience of a local contractor who is familiar with the regional climate and local needs. While customer feedback indicates that the quality of their finished metal roofs can be excellent, there are also significant concerns about project management, communication, and professionalism. The positive review highlights their skill on "challenging roofs," a testament to their craftsmanship. The negative review, however, serves as a crucial reminder to all potential clients to maintain meticulous records, establish clear communication protocols from the outset, and ensure all terms, including payment schedules, are in a written contract. Ultimately, for those in Ohio, choosing a contractor for a specialized and durable roofing solution requires a careful consideration of both their technical skills and their customer service approach, and Detweiler's Metal Roofing presents a clear case for the importance of both.
