★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Initial consultation in Fall 2020 was with Kevin, that was a positive professional experience. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. Job was to demo existing roof, install new roof with open valleys (Kevin agreed at initial consultation and First Choice was reminded several times by text message and email) and repair/seal box gutters. The crew that he scheduled did not speak English and there wasn’t a translator present for the first 2 days. There was a miscommunication between Kevin and his foreman and they did not install open valleys as requested. I looked up a few phrases in Spanish to ask them to send me photos of the open roof, which they did. The crew was really nice, hard working but likely over-scheduled so in a hurry, unfortunately they were in such a hurry that they had our roof open through a rainstorm which left water in a few light fixtures on the second floor. Luckily our house does not yet have insulation in the attic or everything would have been soaked. I called to complain about this and the lack of open valleys and Kevin was very apologetic. We reached an agreement to lower the price, which I thought was fair and that was hopefully the end of it. Fast forward several months to this winter (Jan/Feb2021) and our "repaired and sealed" box gutters are still leaking between the house and the gutter, we had ice pouring out of a few of the repaired areas so they do not appear to be sealed (or if they are sealed, not draining towards the downspout), some interior damage to plaster walls/ceiling, exterior photo attached for reference. I contacted their office with photos and sent a photo to Kevin (no reply) to ask them to actually fix the gutters, and they sent Pedro to take a look, with no notice of the visit, I literally looked out a window and noticed a guy on a ladder. Now that the weather is nicer, we have not heard back from First Choice, but that's likely better because I have very little confidence in them being able to repair as advertised. The guys were nice, I hate to leave a bad review but the whole project was poorly managed, rushed, and communication was lacking.

Mar 16, 2021 · Jennifer RogersThis review is late, but we wanted to send it. Earlier this year we worked with Kevin on contracting for a complete new siding job. The materials came in when construction was shut down in March for the pandemic. Kevin was great in keeping us informed during the shutdown. As soon as construction was allowed to open, Kevin sent a great crew to our home and in two days they completed the work. There was only one delay beyond that - the gutter for the front porch had inadvertently not been ordered. Once it was ordered and arrived, a crew came out to installWe're very pleased with the quality of the siding and new gutters and the crew that installed was awesome! We highly recommend 1st Choice Home Improvements for siding jobs! Thank you Kevin and thank the crew that installed in early May for us!

Oct 01, 2020 · Mary WOnce we were alerted to the fact that the individual who gave us the initial quote etc. was no longer with the company the owner took over coordinating the job. From that point forward he was great with keeping us updated on when he would be able to obtain materials, any delays that came up on the supplier end and kept us updated as far as scheduling around weather etc. He came out after the job was completed to make sure we were happy with the work as well as to make sure it was up to his standards. After the initial hiccup, we’ve been happy with everything moving forward. Obviously I didn’t want to update the review until the work had been completed. Now that the work has been completed I can definitely say that I would not hesitate to recommend them and will likely use them again in the future.I WOULD have given a higher star rating as we have been happy with the work. Why I didn’t: my initial phone call with Kevin after the problem employee (who is no longer with them) did not start out well. While I understand that from his perspective we SHOULD have been aware that the time line we were given was unrealistic, that’s hardly a fair assessment to place on a customer. A customer can only rely on the information a company’s representative provides, so if that representative states that there are no pending jobs and that your job will be next in line after current projects are finished as a customer you believe them. Then there is the response from the company to my initial review. The response COULD have simply been “We regret that the former employee gave the customer the wrong impression as far as timeline and we are actively working with this customer to make things right.” At the end of the day, the issue wasn’t that I as a customer had an unrealistic timeline or was in anyway unreasonable in my expectations. The blame lies with the then employee. I do hope in the future they will refrain from placing blame on customers; there are certainly times when customers are unruly and deserve blame but that is NOT the case here. All we required was open communication as to timeline changes.Updated Review: Original Review Below, which given the response from the business I will leave posted. We signed a contract for gutter work on July 7th with Zach (the owners son). At the time we signed he assured us that the work would be completed by July 22nd unless we got a lot of rain. I reached out to him the week of July 22nd because I hadn’t heard from him. He said he’d be on property the 22nd. The day of the 22nd he “mixed up” my project with another one and went to that one. He apologized and said he’d get back to me over that weekend. He did not. The following week it did rain some that following week but there were definitely dry days. I reached out to him over the weekend of July 30th and still heard nothing. I tried again today. He refused to answer my call or text and when he finally did answer he was rude, as though the fact that I am now getting forceful with wanting a response and timeline for when a job I have already paid in part for and which he has gone over a week without response in regards to is somehow unreasonable. At the time we signed the contract we were very clear with Zach about our expectations as far as the timely completion and that we had been burned in the past by contractors taking our money and then failing to do the job.

Jan 24, 2023 · Mark HopewellWhen you find a good contractor hold on to them for dear life. I must have worked with 10 contractors before working with first choice. Not only was the service swift but it was very professional. Kevin at this company did what he was going to do. I would definitely work with them again.
