Mose Roberts General Contractors Introduce
Finding a contractor for a major home project, such as a new roof or deck, is a significant decision for any homeowner. For residents in the Kentucky region, especially around Lexington, it is crucial to find a company that is not only skilled but also reliable and accountable. Mose Roberts General Contractors is a business that has been involved in the local construction scene, offering services for both roofing and decks. This article aims to provide a factual and balanced look at the company, based on available public data and customer reviews, to help potential clients make an informed decision about their home improvement projects.
A key part of evaluating any contractor is understanding their reputation through the experiences of past customers. For Mose Roberts General Contractors, the feedback presents a very cautious perspective. One customer review details a negative experience with both a roofing and a chimney repair project. The customer notes that after a new asphalt roof was installed, a subsequent chimney repair job, handled by Mose's son, Scot, was not completed and was left with "further damage." The most concerning part of the review, however, pertains to the roofing job itself, which upon inspection by two other roofers, was found to have "squishy spots around the chimney, indicating that the plywood hadn't been replaced under the shingles." The customer attempted to contact Mose and Scot multiple times but was met with no response and was even hung up on. The review concludes with a strong "buyer beware" warning, suggesting the company and its employees are "very smooth talkers in order to get the job" but fail to follow through, leaving the customer with "further expense of having to hire someone to finish the jobs."
Another review, concerning a large deck replacement, echoes many of the same frustrations. The customer states that what "started out as a great project turned out to be very negative." They hired Mose based on assurances of high-quality work and a long-lasting deck. However, "within months of the work being completed," they started having issues with the stain/seal and warping boards. The customer's repeated attempts to contact Mose for a resolution over "almost two years" were met with excuses and, eventually, a refusal to "take any responsibility, nor even attempt to provide a solution." The homeowner expressed extreme disappointment, feeling they were sold "lies" and that Mose "could care less about a customer that invested A LOT of money with him." This review further reinforces a pattern of unresponsiveness and a lack of accountability for the company's work, which is a critical point for any potential client to consider.
Mose Roberts General Contractors is a local business with a physical address at 3855 Boston Rd, Lexington, KY 40514, USA. This location places the company within the Lexington metropolitan area, positioning them to serve homeowners across the region. Being a local contractor is generally a benefit, as it implies a familiarity with local building codes, weather patterns, and the specific needs of homes in Kentucky. However, the importance of this local presence is diminished when customer reviews suggest a lack of accountability and follow-through. The physical location on Boston Road is a standard address for a business in the area, but the most important interactions for clients will be at their own homes, which is where the issues highlighted in the reviews allegedly occurred. For potential customers, while the company's location is accessible, the critical factor to consider is the nature of the service provided on-site.
The services offered by Mose Roberts General Contractors appear to be multifaceted, catering to several common home exterior needs. The information provided points to a business that is not strictly limited to roofing.
The services offered by Mose Roberts General Contractors include:
- Roofing: A core service, as seen in a customer review where they "stripped and put a new asphalt roof on our home." This indicates they perform full roof replacements.
- Chimney Work: The company has offered and performed chimney repair work. One review mentions a "chimney proposition" and subsequent work.
- Deck Replacement: A major service offered is the full replacement of large decks, as detailed in a second customer review.
- Staining and Sealing: As part of their deck services, they also offer to stain and seal decks, and reportedly offer "longer term" products for an upcharge.
- General Contracting: The business name itself, "Mose Roberts General Contractors," suggests a wider range of services beyond roofing and decks, though these are the areas highlighted in the provided reviews.
Based on the public data and customer feedback, the features and highlights of Mose Roberts General Contractors are a complex and conflicting mix of initial impressions versus long-term outcomes.
- Initial "Smooth Talking": A recurring theme in the reviews is that the contractors, including Mose and his son Scot, are "very smooth talkers." They are able to present themselves and their proposals in a way that convinces customers to hire them.
- Unfulfilled Promises: A key highlight, albeit a negative one, is the discrepancy between the company's assurances and the final result. For both roofing and deck projects, customers felt they were not given the high-quality, lasting solutions they were promised.
- Lack of Accountability: Both reviews highlight a significant lack of accountability. When problems arose, the company reportedly failed to respond to calls, offer solutions, or stand behind their work, even when a significant amount of money was invested.
- Competitive Pricing: While not explicitly stated in the reviews, the initial proposition for the chimney repair suggests that the company is willing to negotiate and find a price point for their services.
- Family-Operated Business: The mention of Mose's son, Scot, working for the company suggests it is a family-operated business, which can sometimes be a positive feature, though in this case, it appears to have been a source of added frustration for a customer.
For those in the Kentucky region who might be considering Mose Roberts General Contractors, here is their contact information.
Address: 3855 Boston Rd, Lexington, KY 40514, USA
Phone: (859) 806-4763
It is important to contact them directly and, as the reviews suggest, to be extremely cautious and thorough in your due diligence before entering into any contract.
In conclusion, for residents in the Lexington, Kentucky area, Mose Roberts General Contractors is a company that presents a high-risk proposition based on available public data. While they appear to offer a range of services from roofing to decks, the consistent and highly negative feedback from multiple customers suggests a significant disconnect between the company's promises and its final delivery. The issues of poor workmanship, lack of accountability, and unresponsiveness after payment are serious red flags for any homeowner. The suitability of this company for locals is highly questionable, and any potential client should proceed with extreme caution. It is critical to get multiple quotes from other, more positively reviewed contractors, check references, and ensure a detailed, transparent contract is in place that clearly outlines the scope of work and a plan for any potential issues. The advice from the customer reviews is clear: when dealing with Mose Roberts General Contractors, it is truly a case of "buyer beware."

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Mose Roberts, roofing contractor, stripped and put a new asphalt roof on our home on August 15/16. the next day he said our chimney needed work and he would fix it for $1500. We declined. On Sept. 4th he brought his son Scot over with a new chimney proposition. The price agreed on was $260. We paid Scot(who works for his father as he claims to be under his father's insurance). Scot got up on the chimney and caused further damage. He never returned to finish the job, nor did he reimburse us. Then I became suspicious of the roof job they had recently completed. Inspection revealed squishy spots around the chimney, indicating that the plywood hadn't been replaced under the shingles. I called Mose and he ended up hanging up on me. 2 roofers have looked at the job and say most of it is okay but the area around the chimney needs fixing. The defective work is under the asphalt so it isn't possible to take a photo. Mose doesn't return my calls, nor does Scot. I now have further expense of having to hire someone to finish the jobs. These people are very smooth talkers in order to get the job but buyer beware.
Sep 28, 2019 · judith harveyWhat started out as a great project turned out to be very negative. Contracted Mose Roberts to do a full deck replacement on large deck. We discussed, up front and at length, our expectations for the project and ended up hiring Mose based on his assurances that the project would turn out great and we would no longer have the issues that were causing us to replace the deck in the first place. He frequently told us how his decks are high quality and we would never have to replace or deck again. We went by every recommendations he provided and even paid him to come back and stain/seal the deck based on the timeline he said would be best for a new deck/lumber. What's more, he presented a longer term stain/seal that he said would be best for our situation so we paid an upcharge to have him use that product. Within months of the work being completed we started having issues with the stain/seal, which then led to boards starting to warp. We immediately contacted Mose and he said he would get right on it and get the lumber rep out to look at it and also contact the stain manufacturer. Months went by with no response so I continually reached out to Mose for an update. He always had an excuse as to why nothing was being addressed with our deck. Meanwhile, the wood issues continued to worsen since they were not being addressed. Now, almost two years later and numerous follow-up attempts to contact Mose, he responds and tells me nothing can be done and he refuses to take any responsibility, nor even attempt to provide a solution. I told him that was unacceptable as someone needs to stand behind the work and fix the issues, especially since they were immediately brought to his attention only months after the project. He has not responded to any of my subsequent attempts. Clearly, he could care less about a customer that invested A LOT of money with him and also initially passed along several referrals. He was great about taking our money and referrals, but could obviously care less about the satisfaction of his client. I could not be MORE disappointed with Mose and how he has now treated us. I regret convincing myself he would be different than other contractors based on the lies he sold us about how great his quality is and how much he stands behind his work. Clearly it is all words and no action. How unfortunate...
Sep 08, 2020 · rastaforsiI hired Mose Roberts to replace some roofing fascia and find a leak on my back porch at the end of August. He found the leak was due to some siding issues and started work the next day. After removing some siding, he found some damaged plywood under a couple of windows and we stopped work until I talked to an insurance adjuster. After talking to the insurance adjuster, I decided to go with a certified hardie board siding installer instead of Mr. Roberts and I called him up to stop his work and discuss what I owed him. This is where the trouble began. He wanted half of the deposit for a couple of hours of work and he was unwilling to negotiate. Instead of talking to me, he hung up on me and he would no longer answer any of my calls. I waited a week and then started to text him that I wanted him to honor his promise to return half of my deposit. No response from Mose. At the beginning of October, I sent him a letter, giving him until the end of October to return my money. During the last week of October, Mose finally texted me asking for another week to pay me back. The first week of November passed, no payment. This started weeks of asking me to give him more time, him telling me he had mailed me the money, and me even setting up a payment plan for him. It is now January, and still no payment. As you can see Mose is not a honest businessman, my advise to stay away.
Jan 02, 2020 · David SnowVery unprofessional contractor. It is people like Mose that make good people hesitant to hire any contractor in the future. Everyday had an excuse as to why he couldn’t come complete my deck build. I currently have 1/4 of a deck built and he has completely ignored my calls and texts. He was quick to take my money and now he will not respond. I will be taking Mose to court and hiring an attorney. He will not get away with this. DO NOT HIRE THIS INDIVIDUAL!
